We made a temperature gauge using different colours to represent different temperatures. We used blue for cold, yellow for cool, orange for warm and red for hot. We brainstormed words for 'cold' 'warm' and 'hot'. We talked about what things we would see, feel, touch and taste for each of these. Next, we moved around the room and decided on what places were cold, warm and hot. Then we got to make a gauge with blocks, using the temperature colours, working from cold to hot. Finally we made a temperature gauge that we could move up or down the scale to show the temperature. The day went from cool to hot!
Everyone was super busy in the 'Winter Wonderland' Discovery Zone. Students used lots of unusual pieces of wool, plastic, wood, paper, mesh, paper plates and cups to create a Winter art design. With the help of lots of tape and glue and plenty of determination students made hats, winter dioramas, hanging art, snowmen and lots of 'chilly' creations! Students that went to the music zone, made harmonicas out of ice-cream sticks and rubber bands. They formed a group and played their harmonicas to us all. You had to cover your ears as they were very squeaky!
Today, we learned about Adverbs. We did some actions and then added an adverb to the action. First we clapped. Next we clapped fast. Then we clapped loudly! The adverbs are fast and loudly. We know they are adverbs because they describe 'how' we did the action!
Declan started to jump. He jumped quickly. Then he jumped slowly. He jumped really high! The adverbs are slowly and really high. We know they are adverbs because they describe 'how' he jumped!
Emily did some hopping in the circle. She started to hop very fast. Then she hopped so high that she nearly lost her balance! She hopped slowly and she did some hopping backwards! Can you spot the adverbs? Remember to ask 'how' she did the hopping. There are four adverbs.
We are learning descriptive writing. We read a story about Hairy Maclary. He is a very clever and mischievous dog! We used adjectives and similes to describe his character and how he looks.
