Today, we started our 'Invasion Games' unit for P.E. We played a game called 'Gear UP'. We had to run, skip, jump and hop in a small area. The trick was to not touch anybody. Our next challenge was to roll a tennis ball to our partner. The trick was to roll the ball in a straight line.. Our final challenge was to see if we could roll the tennis ball into the hoop. The trick was to see if we could make the ball stop inside the hoop. What we learned: To control the ball on the ground we needed to bend down with one leg in front. We had to make sure the ball was released close to the ground and that we released the ball with our hand facing the direction to ensure the ball rolled in a straight line. What a tricky day for us!
Last Friday for Discovery, we explored some different jobs that people do. It was exciting because two police cars and an army vehicle came. We got to go inside the vehicles and have a go at being a police officer and a soldier. It was lots of fun! Have a look at some of the pictures taken on the day.
In maths, we have been learning about measurement. We have been learning about mass (how heavy something is), capacity (how much liquid fits into a container) and volume (how much space something takes up.) We made cones to try and see whose had the greatest capacity and whose had the least capacity. We mixed up cordial, measuring the amount of water and drink powder. We looked at classroom objects and put them in order of lightest to heaviest. In this photo, we have made towers of different heights.
Today, we learned about capacity. First, we measured out 1000 millilitres of water into a jug. Mrs Quinn had a variety of empty containers. We had to estimate if the 1000 millilitres of water would fill each of the containers. After we made our decision, Mrs Quinn then poured the water into the container to check if our estimations were correct.
What we learned: 1000 millilitres is the same as 1 Litre. What we discovered: 2 litres of water filled the ice-cream container!
